Water is a basic necessity of life. Yet unfortunately, our Dominican friends do not have access to clean drinking water. And with expensive, bottled water being their only alternative, many end up sick. Shine the Light’s Water Program will purchase specialized, yet inexpensive, water filtration equipment for each house so everyone, young and old have access to the this life essential drink. For $50, we can provide clean drinking water to one household for up to 10 years!
It’s easy to complain about our unemployment rates here in North America, but in the Dominican it’s on a completely different level. We fight this by arming locals with job skills that will bring them out of poverty and give them a new found hope. Shine the Light trains groups of locals, males and females, young and old, each trip in different skills. As well, we have started an industry in the Dominican that can export product to North America and have proceeds go back to the Dominican to provide dozens of jobs. Your gift will afford supplies for these life changing programs!
In Canada, we are so blessed with free health care for all. In the Dominican, they aren’t as fortunate. Locals cannot afford clean drinking water, let alone medicines vital to their health. Shine The Light’s Medical Program will supply crucial medicines, dental equipment and employ local doctors and continually educate making this program truly sustainable. Your donation can bring relief from bacterial infections, and even equipment to relieve horrible tooth pain.
LIFE SKILLS CLASSES
Life can be hard work! How many of us have been ‘stuck’ in life without a foreseeable way out? And outside of work, there’s still A LOT of work to do at home. And just like body building, if you’re not building muscle, it’s diminishing. We, at Shine the Light, believe that a good home life is crucial for living life to the full. By training and providing mentorship programs, communities can flourish together, strong relationships can be forged and problems averted. Your donation will provide locals to educate and mentor other locals in the realms of parenting, marriage, and other life skills.
EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION
Picture this: School’s out, you’re hanging out with a group of friends and there’s seemingly nothing to do. How much of a chance is there for mischievousness? With Shine the Light, we want to employ some locals to provide programs and activities to battle idleness and direct the generation of the future in a positive way. Your donation will provide supplies and supervision for these activities and programs for the future of the Dominican Republic.
It isn’t easy to go though your day when you’re not well. Maybe it’s a persistent cold or general fatigue or malaise. Moreover, how well do children learn when they fall ill? We in North America are privy to healthy food, yet we still subsidize with multi-vitamins. At Shine the Light, we endeavour to sponsor entire schools of children with one-a-day vitamins. A donation of $20 can provide a year’s supply of vitamins for one person. Also, we would like to teach locals to grow their own nutritious foods and start a gardening program to supply the seeds, skill and education needed.
MAINTAINING MEXICO MISSIONS
Our friends, Phil and Karen Klassen, welcomed us with open arms to our first missions trips to Mexico. They have mentored us and guided us every step of the way with Shine the Light Initiative. As they continue some of their work in the barrios of Mexico, they oversee much of the work that they have so diligently overseen for the past 20 years. Donate to them today to help them continue their work until it is finished. If you’d like to donate on a monthly basis please click here or contact Brent and Wendy at email@example.com
Sometimes people would like to make a donation towards Shine the Light Initiative, however, they don’t know specifically where to direct the donation. If that’s the case, we’d be happy to accept your generous donation and would honour your trust in our organization to use it in the most suitable fashion towards the people in the Dominican Republic.
